Project: Emergency tree removal after tornado
I would not use this company again. We got hit by tornadoes a few weeks ago. A very large oak tree fell on our driveway with some limbs damaging the neighbor’s roof. A few other trees fell on our property causing damage to some of our backyard structures and some minor damage to our other neighbor’s house. This was, therefore, emergency tree removal. I didn’t do my usual due diligence with comparing companies because we needed these trees removed to prevent further damage to my house and both of our neighbors’ houses. We got a few quick quotes the morning after the damage and this company was reasonably priced and my neighbor had a recommendation for them. I was pretty stressed as I had to find work coverage and had to deal with this natural disaster cleanup. My neighbor wanted to use this company, and I agreed since my neighbor suffered more house damage than I did. They got the tree limbs off the neighbor’s house and cleared my driveway pretty quickly. \r\n\r\nThey then caused significant damage to over half of my front yard and my entire back yard with a bobcat. No preventive care or precautions to protect my yard were taken that I saw. I did sign the waiver before they started but the damage seemed excessive compared to past experiences with tree work and no precautions were taken to minimize damage. They said they would “help us out” by smoothing out the ruts yard. This never happened, and I don’t want them to come back honestly, I’m not sure they can help at all. In fact they never came back after the trees were cut up and put on the curb…….and on my front yard since this was a very large pile of cut up trees. This caused more damage to the yard because it sat on my lawn for well over a week. I’m probably going to have to redo my whole yard, but that’s a low priority for now. It also took over 2 weeks and near daily phone calls for them to simply give me an invoice so I could have something to present to the insurance company. \r\n\r\nRegarding the cut trees, they stacked up a large wood pile with multiple large logs, 4-5 feet in diameter and some over 4 feet long (these were big trees). The company performed very little cleanup so I was left with a yard full of mud and debris, along with the destroyed front and back yard. They didn’t haul the trees away from the curb, and they told me multiple times “I talked to the city and they’re going to help haul it away.” When I called the city, they told me they would, in fact, not be helping haul it away as their policy is specifically to not haul it away when a private contractor does the job. After relaying this information to the company, they pivoted and said “we’ll haul it in a few days when we can get the big truck to come out.” After over a week of being told this, I eventually just paid another couple thousand dollars to some other company to haul it off because I didn’t know when or if this company would haul it. When I asked for some, any, of my money back, their response was “the agreement was for us to cut it up and stack it on the curb.” I don’t remember making that agreement, but that’s my fault and I’m out of luck arguing that one. \r\n\r\nIt should be emphasized that this was emergency tree removal after a tornado. These trees had caused damage. My car got significant damage, in fact over 20k worth (it’s an almost new car so it’s not considered a total loss). my house suffered small damage, and my driveway suffered a good deal of damage. This tree was very large and I would not feel safe with it laying where it was as I have small children and this had numerous large limbs. It also had large limbs laying on my neighbor’s house. I would have shopped around more and been more diligent about the removal terms If there hadn’t been damage caused by the trees and I was not worried about safety issues. I was stressed at the time, like many on my street who suffered significant damage to their homes. I just believe I was given the run around and was taken advantage of. I’m sure I’m not the only one around town with these issues.
